Frequently Asked Questions

1. How many Gophers do I have?

Tough question. The longer they have been in the area the more there usually are. I’ve caught as few as 1 gopher in a 15-acre field and as many as close to 400 in a 250-acre section.

2. Will one time through take care of the problem?

No. To gain control of a bad infestation takes at least 1 full year (a complete life cycle).

3. My neighbor has them and won’t do anything about it.

I have a program for adjoining property owners to help entice your neighbor to work with you to gain control of this problem. Gophers don’t know property lines.

4. Will they be gone forever?

No. Gaining control to a tolerable level is our goal although I do strive to eradicate them completely.

5. How do I know that you caught that many?

You will be responsible for the disposal of the dead gophers. They may be counted at this site. I have nothing to gain by false counts and everything to lose. My business is built on honesty, and doing exactly what I say I will.

6. How long does it take?

Small infestations - 1 day, larger problems require at least 4 days up to 14 days depending on weather and ground conditions. I may stay on site to speed up the process depending on location.

7. What are your credentials?

I’ve been trapping my whole life and I’m a member of the National & Iowa Trappers Associations, State Representative for Nuisance Wildlife Control Operators Association (NWCOA). Nationally certified in wildlife damage management, certified pesticide applicator licensed by IDNR and fully insured.

8. How many moles do I have?

I have seen a complete yard demolished by one lousy mole and I have also caught as many as 26 moles in one yard in one season. Generally, 3-5 before May, after June possibly 12+. With moles and gophers the old saying is 100% true, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. Get on top and stay on top.

9. I’ve been using poison peanuts, chewing gum, broken glass and etc.

As far as I am concerned there are only 2 options for CONTROL of moles. Trapping or Talpirid, in that order!

10. How do I know if it is Moles, Gophers or Shrews?

Gophers make fan shaped mounds with a plughole. No visible tunnels.
Moles make volcano shaped mounds with visible tunnels pushed up.
Shrews make a lot of tunnels with little mounds and during warmer weather leave quarter-sized holes open.

11. I’m afraid the moles are killing my flowers.
No, moles are not vegetarians, they eat only insects. This is why gopher/mole bait doesn’t work. This bait will kill them if they eat it but it is unlikely to happen. Gophers are vegetarians and do accept this bait.
12. Do squeaky windmills or vibrators or ultra-sonic sound or repellents sprinkled or sprayed keep them away?

These are all ineffective and a waste of money. Again, in my opinion, there are only two options, trapping and Talpirid. LOVES WILDLIFE CONTROL gets you positive results guaranteed.

13. What is the best trap?

In my opinion, the Victor Out of Site is the best. No-Mol traps a close second. For ease of use the Mole Eliminator is a great trap but not very versatile. The Spear Trap is effective, but dangerous and its use is limited.
